I keep coming back to the line
Whispered on a friend’s couch
Confided in a fire red throw pillow
“You did this to us”
It’s important to say with meaning
As though counting your failures
Would give an excuse for you or
Me I’m just trying to survive
Staying angry coal in my chest
This is the age of modern living
Hard lines on the furniture pushed
Around a mattress on the floor
I would not be so bold or brave
In the grace of your love
For hostility and self-destruction
Ambiguity is comfortable over
Certainty in a situation where
I did this to me
