Laying next to you in a too large bed
Better pillows than we’re used to
Softer mattress than we could afford
Anxious for morning sunshine
Nervous to put my foot out
To discover you next to me a reality
Or worse to find you’ve gone

An attempt at sleep full of failure
You roll over and tell me your nauseous
Pang nervous energy fills me up
The word mistake on my mind
But not on your tongue no
Missing minutes and hours of sleep
As you get up to leave I’m stuck
To the sheets and to this version of me
Tired happy full to the brim of love
The sun on me as I pull you down
Hold you against the world which
We’d be returning in moments
Before it’s time to build a new one
